A Brief history of Ammanford AFC

To date

1908/9 First recorded fixture to date, a friendly against  Rhondda touring team, against Ammanford Town.

1920s Ammanford Thursdays played at Caemawr Betws

1930s The first Betws soccer club called Betws Blackbirds played on Rice Road with their dressing rooms and head quarters at The Coopers Hotel Betws

The committee at that time had the foresight to purchase the playing field and for land to build a club house for £750.

1949 Entered The Welsh League under the name Betws.

1957/8 Finished runners up to Llanelli.

1958/9 Champions of Division 2 (West) and promotion to Division 1. They also won the Division 2 cup beating Div 2 (East) champions Tredomen’

1959/60 On Saturday 22nd August the club played its opening first division Welsh League match at home , against Cardiff City and won 2-1.

1960 At the request of  The Welsh Football League. changed their name to Ammanford Town.

1963 The club house was built.

1964 At a cost of £4,000 a 450 seater stand and new changing rooms built.

1966/67 Welsh League Div 1 Runners up to Cardiff City.

1967/68 Welsh League Runners up again to Cardiff City by one point.

1992 Amalgamated with Ammanford Ahtletic, and became Ammanford AFC.

2003 April.  Fire destroyed the stand and changing rooms.

2006  Played first match at new ground The Recreation Ground

2014 Relegated to Division 3

2015 Promotion to Division 2
