- PONTARDAWE TOWN V AFC LLWYDCOED & WEEKEND REPORT

THE NATHANIEL CAR SALES WELSH RESERVE LEAGUE WEST DIVISION

PONTARDAWE TOWN v AFC LLWYDCOED 4/1/2020

Llwydcoed's development team travelled to the Town's Parc Ynysderw ground and displayed a much improved display after the heavy defeat in the previous game and in doing so gained the victory, the two goals   scored with class.

AFC Llwydcoed Manager Mr Jonothon Price was able to select new signing Kieron Bairstow and the evergreen stalwart Ryan Barry into the starting eleven.  The Town started moving and passing through Steffan Pryce, Louis Gillett and Ethan Davies showing their talent . Llwydcoed responded with Kieron Bairstow, Matthew Flynn, Sebastian Hobbs covering the movement.  The Town were on top at this early stage but they never really troubled the Llwydcoed goalkeeper Iestyn Farley.  Gradually Llwydcoed began to find space to attack through Dylan Jones and Callum Henry both midfields were trying to gain the ascendency, Town then attacked again through Oliver Schofield and Steffan Pryce.  More excellent work rate by Llwydcoed's Luke Spencer and Dylan Jones stopped the threat again and they began to break  from defence into attack finding Kieron Bairstow always looking to attack and support the excellent Robert Evans but the first half finished goalless.

Llwydcoed started the second half in charge the quality of play of Robert Evans Matthew Flynn and Callum Henry created the space and his  superb cross broke open the Town defence  and  Robert Evans scored with a superb volley.  A second goal soon followed for Llwydcoed, this time Callum Henry scored with a top shot giving the Town goalkeeper Dylan Evans no chance,  this was Llwydcoed's best passage of play in the match.  So with twenty minutes remaining  the Town had time to respond although Llwydcoed nearly scored again through the exceptional Robert Evans and Dylan Jones.  As the match neared the latter stages both teams used their substitutes Alex Brooks for  Town and Callum Watkins and Joe Boulton for Llwydcoed.

The match entered the final ten minutes.  The young Town players reduced the scoreline  with Oliver Schofield scoring.  The final minutes saw the Town almost equalise first a shot crashed against the cross bar.  More pressure and desperate defending saw Llwydcoed survive but the Town still had time to attack and it took a brave save by Llwydcoed's goalkeeper Iestyn Farley to stop them and in doing so this gained  them  a deserved victory.
