The opening match of 2019 saw Llwydcoed Welsh League gain a valuable point. The first point since October 6th, they almost crashed to defeat number fourteen because of another sending off towards the end of the first half but a second half display full of courage by the Llwydcoed “Ten” salvaged a point.
The AFC Llwydcoed Manager Mr Matthew Driscoll was still without Ross Daniels, Jordan Ellis, Craig Moses, Michael Davies, Lewis Holder LeoThomas and Luke Spencer but on the plus side Cian Cable and Elliott Morris returned to the line up.
Pontardawe started the better of the two teams with Declan Evans, Dan Briggs and Tom Georglevsky finding space only some brave defending by Llwydcoed's Connor Williams and Luke Davies stopped the threat. The opening twenty minutes saw Town create some top class movement, the hosts were second best. After this difficult opening Llwydcoed began to gain some asserted possession with Elliott Morris, Cian Cable and Robert Evans involved. It was the turn of the Town defence to respond with Christian Evans, Tom Grey and Tyler Aylward stopping the threat. The final ball was good but it could not find a Llwydcoed player. The match had become more even but back came Town and the Llwydcoed goalkeeper Angelo Rovaretti was alert to the danger and then as half time approached Llwydcoed had a player sent off. So after playing themselves into the match they were being punished for indiscipline again.
The half time team talk by the Llwydcoed Manager Mr Matthew Driscoll was about the formation and shape. The second half started with Callum Henry creating an attack with Elliott Morris and Roberts Evans, the Town defence stopped the threat and they started to look to attack through Kurtis Rees and Tom Buzzard. Back came Llwydcoed who were playing with purpose. The introduction of Cori Mabey replacing defender Connor Williams was due to tactical reasons, the ten Llwydcoed players were working non stop to try and stop the threat of the Town quality movement, it had taken some brilliant defending by Llwydcoed's Christopher Bristow, Luke Davies, Gabriel Williams and Liam Jones and their goalkeeper Angelo Rovaretti to keep Town from scoring. The Llwydcoed Ten were still able to create attacks but they were punished by Town after they failed to put the ball out of play and Kurtis Rees pounced after a superb save by Llwydcoed goalkeeper Angelo Rovaretti, he followed up to score so the Llwydcoed “Ten” were staring at defeat number fourteen but they equalised in the very next attack, a long pass was flicked on by Robert Evans who found substitute Cori Mabey whose finish was class. Town still had ideas about gaining the victory, could the Town eleven find a way past the Llwydcoed “Ten” no was the answer only because of some brilliant top defending by the hosts and their goalkeeper to gain valuable point against an excellent young Town team. A deserved point for Llwydcoed “Ten”.
