THE NATHANIEL CAR SALES WELSH FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIV TWO

THE MID WEEK MATCH ABERDARE TOWN v AFC LLWYDCOED

15TH AUGUST 2018

Llwydcoed gained a deserved victory in this away fixture against local rivals Aberdare.  The visitors four goals were brilliant in creativity and precision considering the poor quality of the playing surface.

The Llwydcoed starting line up saw one change from last Saturday with Will Grindle stepping in.  The opening minutes saw the Llwydcoed players passing and moving with Will Grindle, Ross Daniels and Ioan Evans causing problems for “Aber”.  The opening goal was a reward for their possession with Morgan Andrews unleashing a superb shot past the Aber keeper Martyn Phillips to open the scoring.  The hosts were under constant pressure because of the irresistible  movement of Llwydcoed's Elliot Morris and Chris Bristow.  The Aber defence/midfield were being overrun with Lewis Holder and Jordan Ellis winning the midfield control and a second goal arrived with Elliot Morris scoring.  After some excellent play by Chris Bristow and Ross Daniels more chances came and went with the Aber keeper Martyn Phillips tipping a shot over the bar  Moving on from the opening quarter Aber  midfield of Liam Lewis and Levi Jones tried to create openings for Cory Thomas and Daniel Riddiford.  The Llwydcoed defence cleared the rare attacks but Aber  were given a boost after the Llwydcoed defence failed to clear an Aber attack.  The Llwydcoed goalkeeper Callum Quinton saving the first shot only for Cory Thomas to find space to score.  So Aber were rewarded for their spell.

HT 1-2

The second half was scrappy too many incidents resulting in too many free kicks.  Aber had a bigger percentage of possession but no threat to the Llwydcoed defence and goalkeeper.  After this disruptive part of the match Aber were reduced to ten players.  Llwydcoed introduced substitutes Zak Griffiths and Liam Price they began to create more chances and the Aber keeper Martyn Phillips made two saves to keep his team in the game  The spaces in the Aber defence then became more evident and Liam Price moved into space and hit a sublime shot into the top corner from such an acute angle.  The movement of the Llwydcoed players created attack after attack and a winning series of corners taken by Ioan Evans and Elliot Morris scored his second to finalise the scoring.
