THE NATHANIEL CARS WELSH FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION TWO

AFC LLWYDCOED v CALDICOT TOWN 16/12/2017

Llwydcoed's Welsh League Team served up a superb team display against League leaders Town in a Christmas cracker of a match, the best game of the Season by a long way.

AFC Llwydcoed Management Official Mr Leighton Price selected the same team as the previous match.

The match began with Llwydcoed.s Morgan Andrews and Jay Woodford combining bringing Rikki Evans into play. The Town responded and caused problems on the left side through Ben Smith and Oliver Smith. The quality of the Town's attacking prowess was evident it took some top defending by Llwydcoed's Luke Davies and Stuart Evans to stop the threat blocking a shot and winning some vital headers under pressure helped by some alert goalkeeping by Ryan Griffiths. Back came Llwydcoed through Ioan Evans he tried to break free of his marker but the Town defenders Simon Crook and Sam Watkins were able to snuff out the threat. The match was so good to watch attacking wise the Town had good possession but that changed, a superb Llwydcoed attack saw Luke Garthwaite long range pass find Ioan Evans he jinxed his way inside and outside the Town defence and was brought down to win a penalty. Up stepped Llwydcoed Captain Ricky Carter to score with a beauty. What a start for the hosts, more brilliant play by Llwydcoed's Morgan Andrews and Rikki Evans broke open the Llwydcoed defence and although the Town had time to clear the danger the Llwydcoed players never gave up and won the free kick take by Scott Walters his superb delivery found Ricky Carter he headed back the ball back to Rikki Evans to score to send the home supporters into raptures, this was Llwydcoed's best period of the game with Jay Woodford on top form in midfield as the first half neared the finish the Town regained their composure and it took some brilliant goalkeeping by the hosts goalkeeper Ryan Griffiths prevented the Town reducing the scoreline twice. Another chance and a superb goal line clearance by Llwydcoed's defender Luke Davies saved his team a vital part of the game.

HT 2-0

The second half started with both teams trying to gain the early momentum. The Llwydcoed defence were alert to the danger and they began to gain and use the possession brilliantly by Jay Woodford bringing Ioan Evans and Gabriel Williams into space. Back came Town through Ben Smith and Tyrone Dixon, a goal at this stage for Town could have given them the impetus they needed but the Llwydcoed defenders Scott Walters and Stuart Evans won some vital headers and tackles. After this spell by Town Llwydcoed regained their composure and began to create more chances, the excellent Morgan Andrews danced his way past the Town players and just failed to score. The home supporters did not have to wait long for a third Ioan Evans was played into space and as in the goal the first half he danced his way in and out past his Town defender to score. He definitely deserved a ten from Len for his foot work and skill. The Town were not finished they finally opened their goal account with ex Llwydcoed player Garin Withers scoring from close range. The third goal Llwydcoed had just scored had become more important. Both teams used their substitutes with Jonathan Mason, Liam Price and Liam Jones receiving the call, it almost brought an immediate response then Jonathan Mason played Jay Woodford through but the Town defender Jacob Guy cleared the move as he did winning a lot of aerial headers in the game but this young Llwydcoed team were still full of movement and team work they won possession moved it wide and Liam Price picked out Ioan Evans to score What a match he had as did all the Llwydcoed players against a quality Town team to gain a deserved victory. Ho Ho Ho.
