THE NATHANIEL CARS WELSH FOOTBALL LEAGUE DIVISION TWO
DINAS POWYS v AFC LLWYDCOED 4/3/2017
Llwydcoed returned to League action after last week's postponement with a
first class display resulting in a deserved victory on a difficult playing surface .
The visitors were able to recall Tomos Morris to centre mid.
The match started with Llwydcoed settling in and adapting to conditions. They soon had Dinas on the defensive with Rhys Welch and Jonathan Mason linking up the play. More excellent play by Tomos Morris and Oliver Roberts gave Ioan Evans the opportunity to attack the Dinas defender several times The pressure on the hosts defence was constant. After more good play by Llwydcoed the pressure began to reward them, they won a free kick on the twenty yard mark that Ricky Carter took and the ball hit Joey Jenkins and deflected into the goal past the Dinas goalkeeper Elliott Matthews a deserved opening goal. The Dinas defence/midfield were being outplayed by Llwydcoed they were not allowing Dinas to settle and they created more chances a superb slide rrule pass by Tomos Morris through the Dinas defence saw Joe Jenkins fouled to win a penalty. The Dinas goalkeeper Elliott Matthews came to the rescue saving Ricky Carter's penalty. A second goal for Llwydcoed would have been a just reward but the solitary goal between the two teams at half time kept the Dinas players believing after a one sided half.
The Dinas players started the second half looking to gain some momentum, that soon changed the second goal Llwydcoed deservedly arrived. They won possession from the Dinas defence and Ricky Carter scored. The Llwydcoed centre midfield of Tomos Morris, Oliver Roberts and Joe Jenkins were again creating openings for Jonathan Mason, Ioan Evans and Ricky Carter but no more goals at this stage. The match was Llwydcoed's to lose Dinas did threaten the visitors defence winning a few free kicks taken by Brandon Griffiths that never troubled the Llwydcoed goalkeeper Andy Hargreaves. Both teams introduced their substitutes Llwydcoed's were Shay Friel, Callum Henry and Liam Price. As the match entered the final third Dinas tried to break open the Llwydcoed defence/midfield but their only reward was a 95 minute penalty just before the final whistle
