Steve Haggett - Penrhiwceiber Rangers FC

A week as they say is a long time in football, events over the past week has certainly put that saying into perspective as we sadly mourn the passing of our great friend and manager Steve Haggett.

Our immediate thoughts go to Colleen, Danielle, Melissa and the wider family in what is a very sad time. The football family has certainly come together with messages received from all over Wales, such was the mark of a man who done so much for the club and players for over thirty years and who brought unparalleled success to this proud community and the club for which he was the focal point.

Saturday was an emotional day and our thanks go out to Newport City and the referee for their understanding around the match.

Success upon success bestowed the club in the 90s and into the new millennium, winning league championships, cups and encouraged his players to believe to achieve, a foundation he carried right through to the last, a foundation built on passion, built on ability and built around values.

Im sure there will be players who will say they were better players for knowing him and playing for him. We asked the players and all involved to observe a minutes silence prior to the game as a mark of respect to Steve.

We will all carry memories of Steve for one reason or another, when people talk about someones commitment in the game a term thats very often used is Mr Football, I think we can safely say Steve was Mr Football.

The funeral arrangements will be released as soon as we know from the family.

Steve appetite for the game is well renowned and would never miss a game, none more potent than the previous Saturday which turned out to be his last.

The players and committee of the club send out their heartfelt best wishes to the family as we mourn a great family man and great manager.

Rest in Peace our friend.
